Parking guidance system glossary.

Technical terms and definitions commonly encountered in the industry.

Ultrasonic Sensor

A device mounted above a parking space that detects the presence of a vehicle using sound waves and enables data exchange with other system components.

Zone Control Unit (ZCU)

Collects data from sensors and transmits it to the main control unit.

Main Control Unit

Collects and processes data from zone control units and determines the values to be displayed by the indicators.

Vacant / Occupied Indicator (LED Indicator)

An LED indicator with at least two colours that informs the driver whether a parking space is occupied or vacant.

Space Counter

A device mounted at the entrance or exit of a lane that can count the number of vehicles passing through.

Devices used to direct vehicle drivers to a vacant parking space or to display the status of available spaces.

Power Supply

A device whose primary function is to provide power to other devices connected to the system.

Geographic Terms

Section

A small parking area that can be geographically defined with entry and exit points. A corridor with parking spaces and a driving lane on both sides is a typical example of a section.

Zone

A larger area comprising multiple sections. The size of a zone is limited by the coverage capacity of the interface device.

Block

A large, geographically definable area with multiple entry and exit points, consisting of multiple sections and/or zones. An entire car park or a complete floor of a car park are examples.

Reserved Parking Space

Dedicated parking spaces allocated for drivers with disabilities or elderly drivers, typically positioned close to building entrances within the car park. These spaces may be displayed in blue or yellow in addition to the standard occupied/vacant LED indicators.
